Y.O.U. is thrilled to be partnering with the Family Action Network (FAN) for an interactive presentation and discussion about how schools in Chicago’s North Suburbs are embracing the Community Schools approach to engage parents as leaders in their schools and communities. Over the last year, a coalition of organizations in Evanston and Skokie have been part of a pilot initiative that engaged more than 30 parents in a 6-week leadership training where they learned how to develop and implement goals for themselves, their families, and their community. Now these parents have formed school-based teams that are planning activities to enrich their school community.

On Tuesday night, we’ll be sharing this innovative pilot and having the partners and parents involved share their experiences in this exciting journey. Panelists include:

  • Jeanette Castellanos Butt, Vice President of Community Investment, United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
  • Paul Goren, Superintendent, Evanston/Skokie School District 65
  • Erin Moore, Community School Manager, Y.O.U.
  • Quintin Shepherd, Superintendent, Skokie/Morton Grove School District 69
  • Graciela Suarez, Lead Organizer, Community Organizing and Family Issues (COFI)
  • Parent Leaders from Evanston and Skokie

Tuesday, October 14 | 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Joseph E. Hill Education Center
1500 McDaniel Ave., Evanston, IL 60202

The event is free and open to all. A reception will follow. RSVPs are encouraged at www.youevents.org.

This event is co-sponsored by: Erikson Institute, Family Action Network (FAN), Foundation 65, North Shore Academy, Northwestern University’s Master of Science in Education Program, Northwestern University Center for Talent Development, School District 65, School District 69, The Evanston/Skokie PTA Council, United Way North-Northwest, and Y.O.U.
